In this panel reflect on the transition of the oil and gas industry in Northeast Scotland faced by the decline in oil and gas production, diversifying of interests and a new focus on resiliency for the industry. Based on project experience, including work delivered in collaboration with Jacobs Engineering, the panel discuss challenges facing adoption of circular economy approaches to the decommissioning of oil and gas infrastructure. The discussion concludes with a look to the future and how the circular economy can apply to the oil and gas industry’s transition and what the future holds for the oil and gas industry.

Energy Sector Manager, Zero Waste Scotland

Scott’s role is to facilitate and enable change within the Scottish energy sector to go beyond the linear, single use of assets. His focus is on enabling and increasing the reuse, remanufacturing and repurposing of energy assets at end-of-life, helping add-value as part of a journey towards a low-carbon, sustainable, circular economy. Lofty aims aside, as part of the wider circular economy team, Scott’s responsibility is to engage and work with businesses involved with energy to help them identify and implement these circular business practices to reduce costs and add value to their processes and to wider-society.

Susi Wiseman

Susi Wiseman

Project Manager, Oil and Gas Technology Centre

Susi has over fifteen years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. One year ago, Susi joined the Oil and Gas Technology Centre as Project Manager – Decommissioning. Previously, she was with Repsol Sinopec Resources (UK) working on the Buchan Alpha decommissioning project. She has also been directly involved in leading exploration development projects and operations improvement projects for a number of assets.

Alistair is a communicator and facilitator with over 30 years’ experience in the upstream oil and gas sector in the UK and internationally. He has completed hundreds of commissions for a range of clients including many SMEs (especially in the energy infrastructure sector), oil companies such as Shell, BP, BG Group, Conoco Phillips, trade associations such as Decom North Sea and the Industry Technology Facilitator, large contractors and recently Zero Waste Scotland’s circular economy Programme.
